I was talking with a young man about how reading the Bible daily is so beneficial. As we talked about the importance of it, and getting a Bible reading plan of some type to keep us on track, we then talked about reading through the book of Proverbs. Proverbs is such a fantastic, practical, real life issue book. It deals with so many important subjects. It’s an amazing treasure trove of wisdom.
As we talked about reading a chapter in Proverbs a day this individual said, “You know, there’s so much in each chapter, it’s almost hard to read an entire chapter a day because each verse gives you so much to think about and to live out.” Yes, each verse is loaded, and it’s important to meditate on every verse and to apply it. However, I also told him that if he would read a chapter a day as well, the Holy Spirit would bring back to his remembrance what he read when he needed it. It’s like a pop up on your computer. When you read the Word of God and really take it in, the Holy Spirit can then later bring it back to your memory when you need it. The Scriptural truth will just pop up in your mind. Bluup – there it is! Just what I need to make the right godly decision. Bluup – there it is! Just what I needed to know how to respond to a situation. Bluup – there it is! That Proverb coming back to my mind warning me about a possible sinful or hurtful situation developing. Hey, I like divine “pop ups”! How about you? Didn’t Jesus tell us, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NIV).
In order for the Holy Spirit to remind you of what Jesus said, you have to know what He said to begin with. And we do that be regularly reading and hearing the word of God. Come on believer, get into the word of God today and let it change you, bless you and make you more like Christ. And prepare for some great divine pop ups!
