Wow! Isn’t it great! What a blessing! What a wonderful husband or wife! What a great job! What a wonderful church! What a great car, house, suit, boat, friend, etc. That’s usually the response we have when we first receive and experience a blessing from God. We love it and are so grateful to God for it that we can’t help but tell others about it. However, if we’re not careful we can become so familiar with a blessing over time that we no longer appreciate it like we use to and should. We can even become blind to it, and end up losing it because we’ve become ungrateful.
Here’s one way to see if you’ve become blind to a blessing and you’re now losing out because you no longer see it and appreciate it. If others are blessed, encouraged, thankful, appreciative, or even wowed by what has become of no significance or importance to you – you’ve become blind to your blessing. You see, the blessing hasn’t changed. It’s still wonderful, that’s why others who are exposed to it appreciate it, love it and even rave about it – like you use to. You’ve just become so use to it that you don’t see the great value of it anymore.
Throughout Scripture we read how we are to be grateful and thankful at all times and really appreciate what God has given to us. There are many who would love to have your job, house, car, marriage, friends, etc. Let’s make sure we never fall into the sin of familiarity and become ungrateful. Sadly, for some; it’s only after the blessing is lost that it’s appreciated again, but then it’s often too late to recover what was lost.
“always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Eph. 5:20 (NIV)
