In Matthew 6:33 Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (NIV)  What a wonderful promise! If we put God first He will take care of our other needs. Notice, Jesus didn’t tell us not to seek other things, He told us to not seek them first. He wants to have first place in our hearts.

One of the ways we can put God first every day is by calling upon Him early in our day like Jesus did. In Mark 1:35 we read how, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (NIV) Very early in the morning Jesus called upon God the Father. Yeah but, “I’m not an early morning person”, you say. I understand, many people are not early morning people; but we can all take a few moments during the first part of our day and call upon God. Here’s an idea; when you first get up in the morning, before you even get out of bed, take a few moments and pray and talk to the Lord about the new day He’s given to you. You can surrender your heart and life to Him afresh and new, you can ask Him to guide you and direct you, you can ask Him to keep you strong in any temptation that may come your way, and you can ask Him to help you to speak right – think right and do right. You can put Him first in your day. And, you can also take a moment and read a passage or two from the Bible as well. Try it! Try it tomorrow! It will make a difference in your day.
