Recently I spoke of my teen years and some of the High School drama that went on. Which was certainly not High School Musical! Well I will admit that some spooky, creepy background music did help me get the point across as I told my mean girl story. Nevertheless, I dealt with the problem of comparison traps and how they only lead to trouble. Comparing ourselves to others or comparing our favorite people to others can only result in two things: insecurity or jealousy. Insecurity makes a person feel inferior and they may try to make another look bad so they feel better about themselves. They may also withdraw or be unfriendly. Jealousy makes a person filled with pride thinking more highly of themselves than they ought. Both emotions are toxic and sabotage any chance for friendship if not dealt with.
Pride will not allow most people to admit or confess the issue at hand. I know for me, keeping a positive attitude, encouraging others and being thankful helps smash the jealousy "spider". Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens always be thankful...1 Thess 5:16-18. We can encourage ourselves by thinking positive about others and helping them be all they are meant to be. Whenever I have felt jealous, I pray. It also helps to look for ways to BLESS the person (supportive heart or point out hidden gifts or talent). A genuine compliment goes a long way! Life's too short to get caught up in comparison traps. It's not a competition. Who's competing? Be the best YOU that there can possibly be and LOVE others. Smash the jealous bug!
